The Outernet Project

As conceived by Robert Michael Pyle and termed "The Outernet Project" by Martha Weiss, this program, simply stated, is to place butterfly nets into the hands of kids and give them the same connection with nature many of us have had.

Utah Bug Club is the charter organization in support of The Outernet Project as Todd Stout, the founder of Utah Bug Club, is also the Outernet Project Manager for The Lepidopterists' Society and is responsible for piecing together its logistics and managing its growth.

What this means is that, in addition to UBC membership and field trips, kids can now receive a free 12" insect net, 12" spreading board, insect box, insect pins, How to Make an Insect Collection booklet, as well as a free one-year membership to The Lepidopterists' Society for a discounted price of $20.

This one year membership to The Lepidopterists' Society enables kids to become part of a larger organization dedicated to the enjoyment of butterflies and moths.  Kids also receive four issues of The News of the Lepidopterists' Society.  More.  (Note:  You do not need to order Outernet Kits directly through The Lepidopterists' Society as these will be provided during UBC meetings as you pay dues.)
